Kickstarter Shout-outs!: Cam's Eye View's Kickstarter Editorials.

I am sad to say that during July of 2014, Kickstarter has hit a bit of a low point in terms of creative and worthwhile Kickstarters that look interesting. Either because of a poor excuse of a pitch video or a poor execution of a worthwhile Kickstarter page in general, July 2014 is sucking for Kickstarters. I was worried that I would have to wait till August to continue these series of articles. Heck, I finally have a lot to talk about in a list I am going to do covering what I consider to be a good or a downright terrible Kickstarter campaign. A few months ago, I helped back an interesting Wii U Kickstarter game called Hex Heroes. Hex Heroes is a real-time strategy game with emphasis on playing cooperatively with friends. This might seem like nothing special, but I contributed to a Kickstarter of a game genre that I don’t normally play. I then decided to see if there were any other Kickstarter projects going on that had genres that I don’t normally care about. That is how I found about TerraTech. Let’s build our own vehicles, mine for some resources, get into some vehicular combat, and check out TerraTech. TerraTech is a game where you play as an off-world prospector. You must go to other planets and gather resources to bring back to earth, since earth’s resources are almost gone. The game has elements of customizable vehicle combat, resource gathering, and physics! When you start up the game, you set up your headquarters and then venture off to find resources. Some of the more highly praised retro PC games of all time are the early PC Fallout games. They were known for being the pinnacle of how to do RPGs set in a post-apocalypse setting. I haven’t personally had time to play them, but they are on my laptop, and readily available when I have time to sink my teeth into them. Nowadays, people probably know more about the Bethesda made/published Fallout games, and while I have had more time with those games and enjoy them to an extent, I have an issue with how Bethesda tackles every game they make. These days, you can’t get a certain genre without it blending together with another genre. We have action platformers, first-person shooter RPGs, and you get what I am saying. Well, I found a Kickstarter game that is pretty much a stealth game. It is a game called Twin Souls: The Path of Shadows. Let us jump into the shadows and see what this game is all about. You play as a vengeful spirit named Aragami. He was summoned by a female of mysterious origins named Yamiko, who has been imprisoned in a fortress that is heavily guarded. Due to being summoned by her, both of your souls are bounded by destiny as you must traverse across the land to break the seals that imprison her. This seems like an interesting setup that has some potential, but we will have to see if the story as a whole is filled with complex themes of destiny, identity, and other motifs that you could fit into this story and make sense. The Kickstarter/indie scene seems to be hitting the fatigue stage of funding, due to many genres that were once niche genres becoming more commonplace. Kickstarter projects need to be more diverse and unique than ever now, if they want to reach their funding goals. Heck, I am thinking of writing up an article about what I find to be an appealing Kickstarter page at a later date. One kind of game I don’t see getting represented a lot in the Kickstarter scene is the edutainment genre. With the recent success of the Reading Rainbow Kickstarter, which is really awesome, I decided to begin my epic quest of finding an educational video game that looked fun!
