Kickstarter Shout-out: Cross Code

Image
I’ll be honest with you all; I have not been very proficient with Kickstarter Shout-outs covering game projects from the crowd-funding site Indiegogo. It isn’t that there haven’t been interesting projects there, but the way they categorize video games on that site has left me a little confused. A majority of projects there seemed to be people wanting an Xbox One or wanting to start their own YouTube page. Luckily, I was able to find out about this awesome crowd-funding project called Cross Code . This project is being developed by Radical Fish Games. The developer was recently at the Austin-based media event SXSW, and I got a chance to play their game. After the event, the developers contacted me about writing an article about their game, and emailed me the demo they had at SXSW. First off, I want to thank Radical Fish Games for this opportunity, and secondly, this was one of the most polished experiences from SXSW, so you know you are in for something great!  Now then, let’s see why C

(Originally posted: March 18th, 2015) As I promised, I have been able to talk to the developers behind the Kickstarter Tahira: Echoes of the Astral Empire, and ask them a few questions. If you haven’t checked this Kickstarter out yet, go to tahiragame.com. If you love games like The Banner Saga or the upcoming Bedlam, then you should definitely check this game out! The game only has a few days left on Kickstarter, but it has been greenlit by the community on Steam. Below are the questions I asked, and the answers I received. Let’s do it! Me: What were the inspirations behind the overall concept of Tahira? WHG: When we started working on Tahira, I'd just spent five months trekking in Nepal and travelling in India. Those experiences were fresh in my mind, and I wanted to create a game that captured some of the sense of adventure I'd felt journeying across those amazing landscapes. The first inkling of what Tahira would be was an image that became lodged in my brain. It was of a p

Kickstarter Shout-out: Clive 'n' Wrench

Here is a fun fact about these Kickstarter Shout-out articles. The origin of these articles was a game called Clive and the Stones back in 2014. Unfortunately, the original Kickstarter did not make its funding goal by a long shot. I also wasn’t proud of the article, so I never published it on my own website. That means that the first official Kickstarter Shout-out went to Popup Dungeon. Well, more than a year later, Clive and the Stones is back as Clive ‘N’ Wrench. If you are into 3D platformers like Jak & Daxter, the two main Banjo Kazooie games, or the upcoming A Hat in Time and Spooky Poo’s HAPPY HELL, then this is the Kickstarter for you! The story is about, who else, but Clive and his buddy Wrench. They must stop an evil scientist bunny named Dr. Daucus, who is traveling through time to find these ancient stone tablets. Can Clive and his monkey buddy Wrench stop this evil scientist from reaching his goal? Well, you will have to make sure this game gets funded to find out. Cliv

Kickstarter Shout-out: Spooky Poo's HAPPY HELL

For a short while, 3D platformers were popping up all over Kickstarter. You have the famous A Hat in Time, which is doing well in its development time and is a crowd favorite in terms of indie games. We also have the upcoming Lobodestroyo, a 3D platformer about a luchadore mask-wearing wolf. It’s a bummer that we don’t see more of these kinds of games, because during the Nintendo 64, PlayStation, GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Original Xbox days, we had a multitude of 3D platformers. These days, it seems like all we are ever getting are 2D platformers. Luckily, Kickstarter has recently brought us two different Kickstarters that happen to be 3D platformers. The first one we will talk about is Spooky Poo’s HAPPY HELL. If you love 3D platformers, and love the art style seen in the very old Fleischer cartoons of the 20s and 30s, then this Kickstarter is up your alley. Here’s the premise. Spooky Poo, a cat with a Jimmy Durante-style nose wants to make a wish. Through common logic, he goes to
