Interview with Steamroller Studios, the people behind Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse

Image
Like I promised, I got to talk to Steamroller Studios about their popular Kickstarter game, Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse. If you haven’t heard about this game, or haven’t seen my Kickstarter Shout-out article about it, go to deadwoodgame.com. It is basically a combination of Don’t Starve and The Legend of Zelda. As of writing this article and interview, the game is extremely close to reaching its PlayStation 4 and Xbox One stretch goals. Hopefully, they put a Wii U stretch goal in there as well. The answers were given by Adam Meyer, the lead game designer, and one question was answered by their animator, Jalil Sadool. Now then, let’s get started! Cam’s Eye View: Where did the inspiration come from for Deadwood? Adam Meyer: The whole idea of making a game about wooden zombies was actually a complete accident. When we started, we were simply developing a zombie game for mobile. Now keep in mind this was about 5 years ago, so the tech of the mobile market meant that we had to do fairly s

Kickstarter Shout-out: Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse

In this day and age in gaming, everyone from big developers to the small indie developers is combining different genres to give you something interesting. It might not always work, but you often remember these titles a lot more than games that are painfully generic. For example, today’s Kickstarter combines the survival/crafting elements from games like Minecraft and the action adventure elements of The Legend of Zelda. So, if you love games like Don’t Starve, then you would be in love with this Kickstarter called Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse. This Kickstarter game is being developed by Steamroller Studios, a group of talented individuals that have experience working on both games and movies, like “How to Train Your Dragon 2,””The Hobbit,” Bioshock Infinite, “Avatar,” Rise and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” in addition to working for companies like EA and Disney. Now then, how about we get started on this super charming-looking game? The story of Deadwood is about a wooden being cal

Kickstarter Shout-out: Charmixy: Witch Academy

As much as I enjoy seeing big/ambitious Kickstarter projects, it’s nice to check out something more simplistic and charming in its own right. It doesn’t always have to be yet another tactical RPG with hand-drawn animations, or an open-ended first person game. This time, we are going to look at a mobile game that combines elements of Columns, dungeon crawling, dating sim, and potion making. This is Charmixy: Witch Academy, a mobile phone game that is attempting to get funded by Kickstarter. This hopefully funded game takes place in a witch academy. You get to make your own male or female witch. Your main goal in the game is to interact with the many students that go to the academy, learn spells, date a character you like, and defeat an evil force that wants to take over the academy. It’s a simple story, but as long as the dialogue and the interactions between the characters are well executed, then I don’t mind. So, what kind of game is Charmixy: Witch Academy? Well, as I mentioned earli

Interview with Rainy Night Creations

This time, I interviewed Rainy Night Creations, the developer behind FreezeME, a 3D platformer that is on Kickstarter. I was happy to talk with the game designer, Walfrido. Its funding goal is $15K, and as of writing this article and interview, it is currently a little over $5K. If you like what you see, then I would highly recommend you look them up. They also have a Steam Greenlight profile, where they have been successfully greenlit. Cam's Eye View: Where did the inspiration for the characters of FreezeMe come from? Rainy Night Creations: My girlfriend is a photographer enthusiast, the idea came up one day while I watching her taking pictures, and then we always wanted to do a 3d platformer. Cam's Eye View: Were there other mechanics being considered before the time-stopping mechanic was implemented? Rainy Night Creations: As the main mechanic no, as mentioned earlier all the game was developed around the idea of the camera taking pictures. There are some other minor gimmick

Kickstarter Shout-out: FreezeME

I have been very bad with keeping up with a lot of Kickstarters this year. On top of my Patreon and other events that are happening in my life, I have missed out on talking about certain Kickstarters. There was the Chinese-themed adventure game called Detective Di and the Silk Rose Murders, the gorgeous The Song of Seven Episode 1, the comeback of Toejam and Earl: Back in the Groove, the massively successful “Game of Thrones”-style MMO Crowfall, and the unfortunately not successful funding of the Vanillware-inspired The Vagrant. However, I am now fully committed to talking about Kickstarters that deserve your attention, and today’s Kickstarter Shout-out goes to FreezeME by Rainy Night Creations. Let’s run and jump into this 3D platformer, and see why it deserves your potential investment! FreezeME stars a little girl named R, or, how the internet has delightfully nicknamed her, Hipster Dora. R is walking with her best friend one day, a dog named M, who is then kidnapped by a fat blue c
